Finding Balance, Purpose, and Healing

at Anchored Mental Health
By Jessica Putnam, LPC

Creating Anchored Mental Health has been one of the greatest joys of my personal and professional life. As a therapist, a mother, wife, and someone deeply invested in the wellbeing of our community, maintaining a healthy work–life balance is incredibly important to me. My children are growing up fast, and having my own practice allows me to stay present in their lives while continuing to serve the mental health needs of individuals and families in Warrenton, Virginia and across the state through virtual care. It truly feels like a dream to be able to support both my family and my clients in meaningful ways.

From Classroom to Counseling: My Journey Here

Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, I spent ten years as an elementary school teacher in Loudoun County. I loved working in the classroom, but by early 2019, I began noticing a growing need—one I couldn’t fully meet as a teacher alone. Students were struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges that required deeper and more specialized mental health support.

That realization shifted everything.

In 2019, I made the decision to pursue a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I completed the program in two years, during which I gave birth to my first child—a little boy—right in the middle of my graduate internship. After graduation, I began my residency close to home in Culpeper, Virginia. My residency wrapped up shortly after two major milestones: earning my LPC license and welcoming my second child, a beautiful baby girl.

After spending five precious months at home with my newborn and toddler, I felt ready to bring my dream to life. That’s when Anchored Mental Health opened its doors in Warrenton, Virginia.

My Approach to Therapy

My goal is to meet each client exactly where they are. Therapy should be a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space—one where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with honesty and compassion. I practice primarily through the lens of attachment theory, because I firmly believe that early relationships shape much of our emotional world. This perspective guides the way I understand and support clients as they navigate challenges related to identity, relationships, trauma, and family dynamics.

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify the ways their thoughts influence their emotions and actions. In our first session, we’ll talk through what brings you to therapy and collaborate on a plan that feels both manageable and meaningful.

When helpful, I also incorporate art therapy and play therapy techniques—particularly with children and teens—to deepen emotional expression and promote healing.

Walking the Healing Journey Together

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Each person’s path to healing is unique, and my role is to walk alongside you—helping you gain clarity, build resilience, and reconnect with your sense of self.

Whether you’re adjusting to a new phase of life, working through painful experiences, or seeking support for your child or teenager, Anchored Mental Health is here to provide a steady, supportive presence. My hope is that this space becomes your anchor for mental wellness as you move toward greater peace, healing, and wholeness.
