Ways We Create More “Luck” in our Lives

by Natalia Lueck, LPC, In Luck Counseling, LLC

You may have heard the saying: “The harder I work, the luckier I get,” There is actually a lot of truth in that.

People who appear “lucky” often share certain habits:

  • They stay open to opportunities

  • They build meaningful relationships

  • They take small risks

  • They keep going even when things feel uncertain

From the outside, it may look like luck. But from the inside, it often looks like intention, persistence, and resilience. In other words, luck often grows from the choices we make.

Mental Health and Intentional Living

Our mental health plays a significant role in the lives we create. When we feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or stuck, it can seem as if life is simply happening to us.

Opportunities feel harder to see. Energy feels limited. The future may feel uncertain. But when we begin to care for our mental and emotional well-being, something shifts.

We begin to:

  • Notice possibilities where we once saw obstacles

  • Trust ourselves to take healthy risks

  • Set boundaries that protect our peace

  • Create goals that align with our values

Intention Creates Opportunity

Creating our own luck doesn’t mean we control everything that happens in life. There will always be unexpected challenges, losses, and moments we cannot predict.

But we do have influence over how we respond.

We can choose:

  • Curiosity over fear

  • Growth over stagnation

  • Compassion toward ourselves when things don’t go as planned

When we approach life with intention, we begin planting seeds. Some may take time to grow, but over time they create new opportunities, connections, and experiences. And those moments often look a lot like luck.

A Different Kind of Luck

This March, as we celebrate traditions of luck and good fortune, it may be helpful to remember that luck is not just something we wait for.

Sometimes luck is:

  • Showing up for ourselves on a difficult day

  • Taking the first step toward healing

  • Reaching out for support

  • Choosing hope even when the path forward is unclear

Those choices matter more than we often realize.

And sometimes, the most powerful kind of luck is the life we intentionally create - one thoughtful step at a time.

At In Luck Counseling, we believe that growth, healing, and resilience are not accidents. With support, reflection, and care, people can build lives that feel meaningful, balanced, and aligned with who they truly are.

And that may be the most genuine form of luck at all.
