Lt. Col. Chad Brubaker

Lieutenant Colonel Stephen “Chad” Brubaker is a highly respected member of the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Fauquier community. He has more than twenty years of experience in law enforcement and is trained in advanced leadership skills. Chad grew up in Fauquier County and is an alumnus of the 1997 class of Liberty High School. He is an active member of the community and serves on the Board of the Fauquier County Fair Inc. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Radford University and received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from George Mason University.

He attended the FBI National Academy, Session 281. Immediately upon graduation from college, Chad embarked on his law enforcement career, beginning at the Warrenton Police Department, before joining the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office three years later. At the Sheriff’s Office, he soon became a K-9 handler, a position he continued until 2019. He quickly moved up through the ranks in various divisions from Corporal to his most recent rank of Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division in 2020.

He was named Lt. Colonel, Chief Deputy, in February 2022. Chad is extremely familiar with all aspects of the Sheriff’s Office operations. He was a member of the disciplined tactical Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT), served as a Patrol deputy, trained staff on combat readiness strategies, supervised the K-9 Unit, assisted in active shooter training for the Sheriff’s Office, delivered staff training in crisis intervention, assisted the Public Information Officer and worked directly with the community through various programs.

Included among the accolades Chad has received are a 7-times M.A.D.D. Excellence in D.U.I. Enforcement award, an Optimist Club Officer of the Year award, a VALOR award a Professional Canine Services Team award and a Ruritan Deputy of the Year award. Lt. Col. Brubaker and his wife, who is a teacher, and their son attend The Bridge Community Church in Warrenton.
