National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Awareness, Identification and Prevention of this nationwide epidemic

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), are defined as any adverse experience that has the propensity to affect global areas of human functioning. The ACEs include: experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect; witnessing violence in the home or community, and/or having a family member attempt or die by suicide, from the ages of 0-17.

The Center of Disease Control indicates that approximately 64% of U.S. adults reported they had experienced at least one type of ACE before age 18, and nearly 1 in 6 (17.3%) reported they had experienced four or more types of ACEs (CDC, 2024).

While disheartening, ACEs are preventable, and there are several risk and protective mitigating factors. In this training, participants will learn the scope of the problem, be able to identify signs of symptoms of abuse, and learn how the community can unite in prevention with hope for a safer world for our local children.
