Jean served as the secretary of the Board of Directors at the Mental Health Association for three years and brings a wealth of knowledge to her role from her career in social work and adult literacy. Jean actively works to create awareness about the prevalence of mental health issues in our society and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Because of lifelong struggles with, and excellent treatment for bipolar disorder since 1959, she is passionate about sharing her own experience openly and letting others know that treatment and recovery are possible. Jean retired in 1996 as director of the GED Testing Service of the American Council on Education, and holds an M.Ed. from the University of Virginia.
